EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION
The Kennedy Center has been providing high quality child care to the children of Charlestown and support to their families since the 1960’s. Children from 2 years 9 months to kindergarten age can attend our Head Start and Pre-School programs, both of which are licensed by the Commonwealth and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Children up to the age of 8 can attend our After School Day Care. For enrollment information email ecurtis@kennedycenter.org or Kathleen Torosian, Director of Children’s Services, for other questions about the programs ktorosian@kennedycenter.org.
Head Start provides children from low-income families with the tools to think, reason, and communicate effectively. Every Head Start child receives: Developmental, vision, hearing and dental screenings; Self-esteem development through meaningful social interaction with other children and adults. Exposure to reading, letter and number recognition, and structured as well as self- directed play.
All of these skills ensure that Head Start children enter kindergarten prepared to succeed.
The Pre-School Day Care provides full-day child care at a sliding scale rate, enabling parents to stay in the work force.
After-School Day Care keeps children engaged in meaningful and safe activities in part- time after-school programs. Full-time care is available during school vacations and over the summer.
