seeks a qualified professional to serve as the Executive Director of this premier family
services organization that has served the Charlestown Community for nearly 50 years.



Mission of the Center -

As Charlestown's primary human services agency, The Kennedy Center is dedicated to
helping the community's low income residents improve the economic and social quality
of their lives. We believe in the power of promoting self-sufficiency and economic
independence. Through community commitments and representation, the Center works
to achieve these outcomes in Children Education Services, such as Head Start, as well
as in Elder Care and Basic Social Services.



Job Description -

The Executive Director is the CEO of the Kennedy Center, reports to the Board of
Directors, and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission
including its programmatic and financial objectives. Good communication,
administration, fund-raising and organizing skills are required. Key aspects of the
position include but are not limited to :



-work with Executive Committee to develop a plan for maintaining current funding
sources

-work with Finance Committee to prepare annual budget

-work with Development Committee to identify and secure new funding sources

-work with Planning Committee to develop a long-range plan

-keep the Board informed on the condition of the center

-maintain official records, ensure compliance and execute documents

-establish sound working relationships with key stakeholders

-establish sound working relationships with other community organizations

-maintain a climate that attracts and retains a diverse staff of top quality people

-publicize the activities of and educate the community about the center

-develop and maintain sound financial and human resources practices

-encourage staff and volunteer development and education

-promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the center's work



Qualifications -

Specific employment experience preferred includes:

-fund-raising, grant proposal writing and foundation relations

-managing non-profit progams including but not limited to Head Start, Senior Home
Care, Nutrition and Parenting

-communicating and working well with the local community

-managing and motivating volunteers and staff

-working with other community non-profits and advocacy groups

-understanding of the government funding process

-working with a community-based Board of Directors.



Specific education preferred:

A Masters Degree in a relevant field of study with a minimum of 3 years operations
experience; or a Bachelors Degree in a relevant field of study with a minimum of 5 years
operations experience.



Salary and Benefits -

Salary will be commensurate with experience and a benefit package will be included..

COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER COORDINATOR

The mission of the Community Resource Center Coordinator is to provide support to
and develop leadership in the Bunker Hill Development and surrounding community as
well as to address issues of concern to individuals and families in the community
at-large. Individual case management as well as development of group recreational and
educational activities, job search and placement as well as ESOL are major components
of the work.

Requirements: Bilingual, bicultural Hispanic person a plus; positive, upbeat, professional
demeanor; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent computer skills;
excellent organizational skills, ability to communicate with a wide variety of people.
Knowledge of community issues, culture, and dynamics (both in general and in
Charlestown) and the impact of poverty on these dynamics. Full time, salary
commensurate with experience. EOE.

Volunteer Opportunities

SENIOR SERVICES:  Volunteers to call bingo for our seniors on Monday, Wednesday,
or  Friday afternoons.  We also would welcome you for one time or several times to play
music, play cards, lecture on Charlestown history, or teach an art class.

ESL TEACHERS:  Many residents need help learning English and you could teach
individuals or a class at our Community Resource Center on Bunker Hill Street.  Get to
know the many interesting residents of Charlestown who come from Africa, the
Caribbean, and Asia.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER:  Residents need job search skills, job skills, and
employment opportunities.
