Celebrating 50 Years of Education, Advocacy, and Opportunity!

Volunteer

Volunteers play a critical role in the development, design, and implementation of many Kennedy Center program services. There is a wide range of volunteer opportunities from reading to the children in one of our classrooms, calling bingo at the Senior Day Center, providing companionship to elder shut-ins, teaching computer classes at our computer lab, through serving on the Board of Directors.

Parents are encouraged to join one of the education committees, volunteer in classrooms, chaperon field trips, and help the agency raise needed funds to support educational and other services.

Every December a substantial number of families, individuals, civic organizations and local businesses donate to two annual events, the Holiday Gift Drive. Over the past few years, the Holiday Gift Drive has provided toys, clothes, gift cards, sports equipment, and more to over 400 children from low-income families. The Flea Market provides our neighbors with limited incomes to purchase inexpensive gently used household items, toys, clothes, and electronics which stretches their purchasing power during the holiday season.

We encourage local business leaders to send their staff to volunteer action events, sponsor program services, and fundraising events, and share their thoughts on how we can better serve the community.

The Kennedy Center is always eager to expand its range of services and welcomes volunteers’ ideas for new and innovative activities. Volunteering at the Kennedy Center has proven to be a rewarding experience for many people and is a great way to meet your neighbors and share your knowledge. Please contact us to discuss how we can work together to improve the quality of life in Charlestown.
